Orientation and Getting Started Upon joining Dheerya Foundation, I underwent a comprehensive orientation program that acquainted me with the organization’s vision, mission, and core values. This orientation played a crucial role in helping me understand the importance of our work and how it aligned with the broader goal of creating a more inclusive society. Teaching Spoken English Classes and Mathematics classes One of the significant responsibilities I undertook was teaching spoken English and Mathematics classes to students from different grades. It was truly inspiring to witness their enthusiasm and eagerness to learn. From Grade IV to Grade VII, I had the privilege of equipping these young minds with essential communication skills that would undoubtedly shape their future. Additionally, I researched trending subjects on Twitter to align our messaging with relevant concerns that mattered to our cause. Generation of Instagram posters and Donation Receipts During my time at Dheerya Foundation, I was entrusted with the responsibility of creating an Instagram post to celebrate Bakrid, fostering inclusivity and spreading the message of unity. As a volunteer who had the opportunity to work closely with students in these schools, I witnessed the various obstacles that government school students encounter. By raising awareness and finding effective solutions, we can work towards creating an inclusive and supportive environment that allows government school students to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. Government schools often face challenges related to inadequate infrastructure and limited resources. Insufficient classrooms, lack of proper sanitation facilities, outdated teaching materials, and limited access to technology can hinder the learning experience for students. Addressing these issues requires investment in improving infrastructure, providing up-to-date resources, and ensuring equitable access to technology to create an optimal learning environment. - A Journey with Library Project in a Government School
Hello, readers!! Today, I want to share with you an unforgettable experience I had while volunteering for a library project in a government school. As I and my friends walked through the doors of the school, little did I know that this endeavor would change my perspective on education and leave a lasting impact on the students and myself. Join me as I recount my personal observance and the transformative journey that unfolded during my time in the school. When I first stepped into the school's library, I and my friends were greeted by a scene of neglect. Dust-covered shelves held outdated books with torn pages, and the lack of proper seating and ambiance made it an uninviting space. It was clear that the library was in desperate need of attention and revitalization. Driven by a passion for education and a desire to make a difference, a group of dedicated individuals initiated the library project. With the support of a NGO, the support and resources they provided mobilized this to bring the project to life. I eagerly joined their efforts, ready to contribute in any way I could. The transformation process began with a collective effort from volunteers, school staff, and school students. We cleared out the old and damaged books, torned books, creating space for a vibrant collection of new and diverse literature. With fresh coats of paint on the walls, comfortable seating arrangements, and decorative elements, the library gradually came to life. The once dull and lifeless space was now filled with color, warmth, and the promise of knowledge. As the physical makeover of the library neared completion, the focus shifted to cultivating a love for reading among the students. I witnessed the organization of engaging library classes, where the students were introduced to different genres and encouraged to explore their interests. Reading sessions should become a student’s regular occurrences, and my personal and sincere request to all Government school teachers and authorities is to schedule a library period for atleast once or twice a week, allowing the students to discuss about their favourite books and share their thoughts and insights. I understand that this is a slow process but surely, a reading culture should begin to take root, atleast because it builds student’s knowledge and communication skills. As a volunteer, one of the most rewarding aspects of the project was witnessing the impact it had on the students. The library became a sanctuary for them, a place where they could come out and escape from their curriculum studies and enter into different worlds and broaden their horizons. I saw a small level confidence starting to build, as they discovered new authors. The library became a haven of empowerment, instilling in the students a belief in their own potential. Ensuring the longevity of the library project was crucial. The project coordinators and school staff collaborated to create it as a sustainable plan. If they establish a system to manage and update the book collection regularly, organize some events to keep the students engaged. The project had become more than just a physical space; it becomes a symbol of progress and growth for the entire school. My journey as a volunteer in the government school's library project was nothing, it was just a short journey of around 40-45 days transformative. Through the dedication and collective efforts of numerous individuals, a neglected space was transformed into a hub of knowledge and inspiration. Witnessing the students' enthusiasm for reading and their newfound confidence was an experience I will cherish forever. This journey serves as a reminder that small initiatives can have a profound impact on the lives of young individuals and the community as a whole.
